HaTelit® C 40/17 prevents crack reflection on
resurfaced L 264 between Euskirchen and the
A1 motorway intersection/Germany

Background
The heavily trafficked L 264 county-standard road carries traffic from the city of Euskirchen in the northwest of Germany directly to the A1 motorway intersection. The road surface had been damaged so severely by transverse, longitudinal and irregular cracking that renewal was necessary. The main contractor selected for this work was Euskirchenbased Scheiff GmbH.
The roads authority client, Landesbetrieb für Straßenbau NRW, NL Euskirchen, was looking for long-term performance from this new construction with increased resurfacing intervals and therefore decided on a reinforced asphalt solution — using the asphalt reinforcement grid HaTelit® C 40/17. This reinforcement has the advantage that it can be placed directly onto the milled asphalt surface.
Sub-contractor Herbers GmbH installed the asphalt reinforcement.

Construction
After milling off the wearing- and base-courses, the surface was prepared in accordance with current technical regulations, thus providing good bonding conditions for the new surfacing. K170 bitumen emulsion was then sprayed onto the prepared substrate, followed by the placing of HaTelit® C 40/17 asphalt reinforcement over the complete surface.
The reinforcement was then overlaid in direct contact with the new basecourse.
The simple installation method for HaTelit®, combined with the experience and skill of the companies involved, contributed to the speedy completion of the contract and the timely hand-over of the L 264 to receive traffic.

Advantages
Numerous studies and practical experience confirm that the maintenance interval can be increased many times over by the use of HaTelit®.
