High-tensile geogrid/woven fabric reinforces unstable ground - and because no expensive soil replacement is necessary - reduces construction costs. The ease of handling of geosynthetics allows work on site to progress quickly. Geosynthetics act as a separation layer to prevent soils mixing into structural layers, as can be seen in this animated example of an application .

The main applications in railway construction include:

  • Foundations of earthworks on low bearing capacity soils
  • Reinforcement of embankments over pile caps / vibro stone columns etc.
  • Reinforcement of retaining walls and extra-steep earthworks slopes
  • Separation of original ground and load-carrying layers
  • Safety of railway infrastructure in areas prone to subsidence
  • Site access roads and transport routes
  • Lower layer dewatering
